We had so much fun with the kids during school hols and my hubby is finishing his last few days off so I may get back in the swing of things! Depending on how things are swinging of course!
On my scrapping news front - though it really isn't new news - its been about the digi sites for a while now!! My CTs have been blooming and moving and changing - while this bloggy here sat quietly!!
The Queens of Clean have moved in together at Melany's revamped site Simply Clean Digiscraps There have been 2 added flavours! Jennifer Layden (Jennilyn Designs), and Eve Recinella. They have such a wonderful mix of styles and these ladies are all so giving! Coz of holidays I have really fallen behind this month but did manage to get a couple of LOs done for Jen (since Im new to her team!!) I can see there are quite a few little items in these kits I will use over and over and I had lots of fun scrapping with the girly colours in Jennifers new kit called Fresh.
This LO of Jaslyn's 6th birthday is finally scrapped and now I have her 7th Birthday photos looking for a home on a page too!

Credits: Fresh by Jennifer Layden (Jennilyn Designs) from Simply Clean DigiScraps (Papers. wired flowers, paint strokes and Baby alpha are all included). I have used a heap of fonts and a few graciously free brushes from angelic-trust.net. The stitching is from Christine Nash's Simply Stitching range and Ive used one of my favourite date stamps from Dani Mogstad. Fonts: Batik, CK Quick, Bell MT, Punch Label Wordart was inspired by Jen Wilsons Very Random Elements - Yep .... I didnt miss that sale thanks to DigiShoppeTalk!

On the Sweet Shoppe Designs front there are only a few days left to enter the Scrap with the Sugar Babes competition for July. This month Robin set us a huge challenge to come up with fun ways of scrapping 10 or more pics! No 2 pagers allowed! Since Jaslyns birthday had been the day before I had bucket loads of sequence shots! She got this fun toy that Nat and I had to hunt high and low for but got our little hands on it at the absolute last minute! It was worth the hunt with everyone wanting to get a piece of the action! Here is Natalie and Ferdie (testing the goods for strength - of course!) on the new buzz toy around our house! (Honestly - Jaslyn really did get a go!!)

Credits: Five by Angela Barton available at Sweet Shoppe Designs , Glitter Arrows by Meredith Fenwick, Date Stamp by Deb Fisher, Film Brush by Red Moon Studios, Word Brushes by AngelicTrustNet and fonts are Lucida Handwriting and June Bug.

And finally my hubby made it on a page!! Introducing our family toy tester! I may have played with this too long - story of my scrapping style I guess - I wanted to experiment with blend styles and since this LO was for Meredith Fenwicks Brush Challenge over at SBB I had a play with them too - lots of play huh - well Ferdie got his share too!

Credits: Down to the Sea we go by Sandra Boddington from Sweet Shoppe Designs (bg papers have been altered using PSE blending modes) Alpha created using the papers from Sandras kit, Hobo font and Atomic Cupcakes new chipboard action. And I have a Guest Creative Team position in August - thanks Deb!! Got blinkie too!

Off my Typers Diet

Well I guess I have to make a move here - there are too many great things happening around the Sweet Shoppe that need sharing. Firstly, Paula Duncan has created this wonderful kit and has decided to hand it out on her blog as a gift - how awesome is that! Its such a beautifully bright and playful kit and I love the way she accessorizes, constantly coming up with new elements with a funky playful feel! She has also included a 30% off coupon in the download for any of her other kits in the store. The catch - well there really isnt one except you have to be quick - itll be up for one week so - what are you waiting for - get over there and grab it before its gone!

The designers at the Sweet Shoppe are looking to grow a little and have 2-3 open spots for designers wishing to join the Sweet Team. If your interested and want more details check out the following ad and this thread at Sweet Shoppe Designs. Can't wait to see who's going to fill these places. The team are such a fun group and Im sure the new designers are in for a sweet and fun ride!

Finally I have to thank Paula for getting me off my butt and updating this thing! It seems Im way overdue for an overhaul (well me and the blog I guess) but not sure how motivated Ill be to do that just yet - small steps I suppose are better than none at all!

On my own scrappers front I was so humbled to get to round 4 in the Ultimate Digi Scrapper competition hosted by Digiscrappinbiz The challenges really stretched my skills in the content of my LOs journaling wise and I was so touched by so many other LOs in each round. I guess thats ultimately what its about - telling a story through your LOs not just showing some beautiful pictures (still need to have those too, though!) so that we can pass on more of ourselves than just our designing style in our complete collections. Sadly, I missed the big finale even though I made it to all the others! So happy for Robin to have taken out the first place prize! I can't wait til she loads up the "how to" on her blog. That about wraps it up! If you managed to get this far and didnt click right over to Paula's blog then I wish I could say I had a little gift for you! Sorry not so lucky! I could "spill my guts" so to speak on a number of issues - since you're still reading this you obviously have lots of time to spare - but I will push you on your merry way and tell you to stop being distracted by this silly waffle!

Oh - by the way (how could I forget!) Sandra Boddington has a 30% off sale at the Sweet Shoppe to celebrate her birthday. Her kits are truly beautiful to work with and her latest has the most amazing stitching designs.
Make sure you bookmark her blog - she often provides some beautiful gifts for those stopping by! I guess something has to give - after I posted the last tip on my blog - I thought I was on to a good thing! I had actually posted the tip at a site and thought it would be nice to have an incentive to blog and be blogread! Why the desire to be blogread? I have absolutely no idea!! I guess it keeps the masses of online friends up to date on whats happening in each others lives but I kinda feel that weve lost a bit in all this!
Maybe its just me but I like the idea of a community not individual little entities operating separately and competing against one another for hits! Now it seems that you have to travel to many different sites to read up on everyone when you could have chatted together in a community! I mean this blogging thing does take time and I can see so many people put so much into their blogs that make them truly worth a visit! I just like the idea of going on community camps or getting a bunch of people together at one point for a chat than having to visit each of them individually on seperate days! I can just cover so much more ground quicker that way! When you have a life thats sitting there tapping on your shoulder saying come and play its nice to maximise that playtime, iykwim!
Anyway - in regards to the tips - I stumbled on another blogger who was doing the same thing - well it obviously was a good idea! Well - poof - (NO I DONT MEAN THAT KIND for all you 70s Aussies!) - that took the wind out of my sails!
Ultimately though if several people posted there tips at the same site maybe more people would get advantage from it - hey theres a good idea - I wonder if anyone else has thought of that???!!! An online community???!!! LOL!
Hence - zero updates on this blog thing for... oh... about 6 weeks - I guess Im going for a record has anyone else been able to refrain from blogging this long??!??!! Hey theres a challenge - refrain from blogging - the new typers diet! Think it'll catch on?
Seriously (if I can be - Im such a sarcastic ****BEEEEPP***** - had to blank that sorry!) It is lovely to catch up on everyones lives but its also really lovely to have hopping communities! Im going back to the community and will hopefully up date this when I can and vow to spend less time reading others blogs and more time reading information in the online communities!
Still love to get comments though - please dont stop those from flooding in!
Thats it finished my waffle - if I get in the mood I may post another tip - or - maybe not!
Just keep checking back regularly to see if I have broken my record!

A little tip I posted!

Every day I am blown away by the uniqueness and beauty designers display in their papers and elements. Even though I understand the concept of limitless possibilities, I am still stunned at how many new colour combinations and patterns can be conceived and then delivered to the digi world. Of course each designer has a certain flair that makes their designs identifiable and the more often you see work from a particular designer the more you get a feel for their particular style. However, even within that style their are still limitless possibilities turning to reality before our eyes! I love "playing" with these designs and gleaning a sense of emotion from them - be it cheeky and fun, whimsical, serene etc etc. While I have no real desire at this time to start designing I do love playing with the papers and elements trying to achieve or reinforce a mood Im feeling when the Kits and photos are thrown together on my screen. During my "playtime" I come across many "tweaks" by accident - meaning to do something and having selected the wrong option and just loving the end result. (Bare with me I am getting there!) A little tip I posted recently on a board was one of those little accidents that resulted in a stamped or roller paint effect. I decided to share this little tip here in case any one else was interested in fiddling! The LO called Wish I completed for Gina Millers sketch challenge at SBB using Melany Violettes Swirly Things kit shows the result of my "fiddling". The framed layer I used for the photo is my "accident". Originally this was a multicoloured "grid" design. Using the magic wand I selected the white space and deleted it. The original textures made the result look painted or stamped - think Ill use it some more. The key parameters when using your wand tool to vary this "effect" are the tolerance (just play around!) and make sure you dont use "contiguous" which only selects the pixels next to each other - you really want to remove all the pixels in a particular tolerance setting from the entire background layer. And that's it! I hope you find this little tip of some use. If you do have a play Id love to see the results so please drop me a note! Thats it for today guys - no news, no idle gossip - just a long winded fiddling tip! Thanks for dropping by!

OOOps

Been a while I see since I gave my blog a little love! Well Im back on a whim - finally got to do my rounds to see what everyone has been up to! Its really quite fun to see how peoples lives unfold on the net - its a bit like a reality TV program in type! Complete with comedy, frustrations and so many other emotions - wont bore you here with a mammoth list! On the topic of my daily grind .... aint in funny how that can stop any great thoughts in mid stride! Id love to say Ive been surfing in Mauii or on safari in Africa or even cruising up the Carribbean but the daily grind isn't quite so exciting. Hey - finally finished those curtains for the school and now need to enlist a handy man to put up the tracks! Then I can cross that off my list! Also been tearing up raffle ticket books for an Easter raffle fundraiser coming up soon and designing a new club leotard with my kids Head Coach. Now I just have to find the funds to pay for it (well 2 actually)! I am really looking foward to Jaslyn's first Gym competition. She has been working so hard at training (wasn't sure she'd stick at it since she's one of those "just wanna have fun" types)! Natalie was selected to represent the school at the Zone carnival again for swimming and I must say I was very proud of her efforts since she hasn't had lessons for over a year. She went in every event except the 200mtr medley (she can actually do that but not in qualifying time). She could swim the 200 medley when she was 8 (all 4 strokes! - and beat a couple of 11yr old boys in the process!) Alright - I guess thats enough over proud Mother's stuff! Such a braggard! I have really been enjoying my creative team assignments and the kits I have been working with are so wonderful. They are all so talented and its hard not to be inspired by all those patterns and colours. Still have to upload some photo's here of my latest LOs so wont post any now - I guess Im still in mild shock at how quickly I can fill this space and that Ive bothered too!
Hope you all have a super fun week!

Colo River - Jaslyn's Recount

  Colo River - Jaslyn's Recount
Originally uploaded by susieq2u.
When Jaslyn returned to school she did a recount of her camping trip so I had to scrap it with this pic I snapped while camping. OK you may note a title change - thought it was fitting since I do blog on a whim and I just cannot keep a title that Dani Mogstad is using! Thought of making it whimsicology but that isn't a real word! (Do I care - well it seems so huh?)
No pictures this morning yet - need to get a little sleep at least! Have changed the banner and updated my flickr with all my new LOs. Well I guess thats something!
On a family note - Im in the middle of sewing 10metres of curtaining for our school library - (really sad coz our P&C canned their support for our sponsored child - made me so sad since I instigated it - never fear there are several of us in the community that are unable to let him go!) Kids seem to be settling in. My 9 yr old has her first new teacher in 4 years and she is so excited. My 7 yr old has a teacher who on the first day "didn't even yell once Mummy" (she has a reputation for voice raising!) So they seem to be happy enough. Lots of playovers, swimovers, Gymnastics, Gymnastics and more gymnastics! My eldest is now doing 8.5 hrs a week and the little one is doing 6hrs a week. They are training for State trials coming up in May. On the Hubby note - he's home! YAY! Jet lagged and disillusioned! But at least I'm off kitchen duty! Double YAY! (Hence the curtain sewing!)
Hardly worth stopping by guys but I am ever so glad you do! I really love my little mails telling me you have dropped by even if they do inflict mountains of guilt! LOL! They encourage me to try harder and I love that! Til next I type or upload - well Im gonna see If I can add just one pic that got pretty much overlooked in the galleries at this stage - but I adore it! You'll get to see it if my flickr post works! Wish me luck!

Its a post!

OMGosh - Im finally back to this! No more neglect - well hopefully not! Now better keep this a little brief. I don't want you falling off your chair from boredom or shock! Just gonna do my way way overdue tag. I actually did a post on this before I left to go camping but it didn't take - I think there were problems with blogspot. Can't believe I have to double post - I seem to have trouble getting around to this as it is.
Briefly a recap - survived the camp, sent kids packing back to school, have completed all CT requirements for January and have returned to the boards - life is slowly getting back to normal, back to my limo job carting kids from pillar to post after school and been enjoying the luxury of days void of "Can I"s. So here goes - you've definitely waited long enough!

Four Jobs You’ve Had In Your Life:
Checkout Chick
IT Operational Support
Project Team Leader
Customer Service Manager - IT

Four Movies You Would Watch Over & Over:
Saving Grace
Hotel Rwanda
Mr Bean - any (don't know if this really counts but my DDs make me watch it over and over and I still get giggles
Life is Beautiful

Four Places You Have Lived:
A house in midwest Sydney
A unit in south west Sydney
A holiday house on Central Coast (just outside of Sydney)
A house in the upper north of Sydney (where I am now)
OK so Im not big on relocating!

Four TV Shows You Love To Watch:
The Glass House
Australian Idol
Any Renovation show
The panel

Four Places You Have Been On Vacation:
America
China
Bali
Phuket (all way too long ago!)

Four Websites You Visit Daily:
The digichick
Sweet Shoppe Designs
Scrap Artist
Web Sodoku

Four of Your Favorite Foods:
Nectarines
Yum Cha - anything steamed
Lemon Merangue Pie
Chocolate coated Macadamia Nuts

Four Places You Would Rather Be Right Now:
On a cruise ship sipping anything alcoholic
On a Club Med holiday - dont care where
Camping (so long as all the work bits are done) - nb: comes after choice 1 and 2
If none of the above are avilable think Id roll into bed

Four Bloggers You Are Tagging:
OK - I have visited so many blogs that have done this one so I think Im gonna put it to rest - any objections can be taken up with customer service on zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Oops - now where were we?
Think I better hit the hay since those places Id rather be don't seem to be available. At least I'm saving you all another blog to read frequently! Doing the jolly swag dance here coz I finished my first ever AAM LO today - the last of my CT requirements for Sweet Shoppe Designs. I had to go hunt for a few extra picks in my old albums and discovered a treasure trove of scrapin fun. Holiday travel pics, my santa pics, first loves etc, etc. Glad I have another source but I can't believe I still have some in those horrid magnetic albums - and yes they are a sorry site but hey with OptikVerve they are coming up sweet!
This is the last week of the hols and we are going camping - cheers and tears here (oh might use that for my new title - found out Dani Mogstad uses the above title!) Anyway - back on the camping! Don't get me wrong, I just love the camp-out life but I loathe preparing packing and pitching (and that in reverse and then some at the end!). It's only a short stay too - which makes it all the more difficult to justify the workload. Oh well, I know I loved it as a kid (no packing or pitching!) and I know my kids have a ball. This ones all on my shoulders again too! - No male arms to help out here - He'll be galavanting around Frankfurt - freezing beer on the balcony, no doubt! while Ill be pitching tents, inflating air mattresses, assembling stretches, dealing with sibling rivalry, cooking cleaning - blah, blah, blah) Maybe my back will go again! (Preferably before departure!) Only kidding - or I guess just confused. I could stay and scrap! Groan - I know Ill enjoy it when Im there and its a community thing so there are lots of families from school. Lots of friends to play with (all ups) - no drinking water, no hot water - sliding back down the hill again. Chin up! Soldier on and all that stuff! So I guess you know where Ill be if Im not updating this little bloggy! Have been away from the boards lately and think I have the dt's from abstinance! I miss all those challenges so when the kids go back to school I can resume life online at a much better pace! I haven't even done a HappyRobyn Heritage challenge for 2 weeks - bad withdrawals here. OK - gotta sign off now - just a few quickies - thanks for droppin by Ginger - will be back to do those sketches in Feb - Thanx for the giggles Peta too and for the incentive to update this thing (Don't want you having an accident or going into a state of shock or anything over finding a new entry! limited liability!) Shuffled through For Keeps to see all those LOs - Only got to see Sharon's in the special edition - I think I may have missed Peta's and Suzy's. Hopefully not - wish they wouldn't bind them in plastic!
Ok - another epic from the cheers and tears journal. If you got this far I am super impressed - actually if you just stop by Im super impressed! Chow!

Poor neglected Bloggy!

Well, Its definitely been too long between posts! We are still on school holidays and my littlies are back at Gym so we are starting to get reintroduced to the hum of busy-ness. I have been having a little trouble with my back lately and sitting in front of the PC seems to aggrevate it. So I've been limiting my online time - have managed to finish a couple of LO's but can't share at the moment! They are for the Sweet Shoppe (doing a little belated tap dance for the blog - only in my head coz it hurts my back too much!) - I'm a Sugar Babe for 2006! Can't wait to have a peek at all the other DT LO's being uploaded and really looking forward to opening day. Sure its going to be a blast! Ive missed my heritage challenge this week at ScrapArtist with HappyRobyn - a little dissappointed - so Im going to go take a peak at her next challenge - she's got to be the queent of heritage! That's it for today - my poor neglected blog - Managed to add a neat little "flickr" mini album on the screen (found it on Sweet Mindy's blog) - there are so many fun blog things about! And they're easy to add to a blog. You can create one too - Just click on the square faced guy and it takes you to the flickr website - neato!

Moving forward

This LO I posted yesterday was a bit of a challenge gate crash! I was drawn to a LO in the gallery and while viewing it I noticed it had a link to a sketch challenge on Ginger Thibodeau's Blog so I took it on with out really getting the R U Square title of her blog (didn't stop to read it thoroughly just read competition and then win!) I did my challenge and went back and posted my link on her blog. Then I read the whole purpose of her blog -to promote rectangular scrapping! Guess what I did - I had taken that gorgeous sketch and scrapped it into a square and then posted the link on her blog - I felt so silly I had to leave her another note cheekily apologizing for my indiscretion - I mean really they are trying to give up the square - I guess I felt like someone offering alcohol around at an AA meet! Despite my stupidity the result was pretty awesome (at least I think so from the activity it got in the galleries). I really hope all those people reading about the challenge in my LO aren't square scrappers - otherwise itd be like sending a truckload of alcohol to an AA meet!) I used Melany Violette's awesome "Crazy for Paisley" kit available at Simply Clean DigiScraps and just loved scrapping with the bold colours. The quote from William Shakespeare is just awesome and Tina Chambers did a fab job making it into WordArt. This pic is so quirky and fun but it was a little blurry (wrong camera settings) so I played with filters too!

I have had a busy few days scrappin wise. My girls have been doing a little art lately and I have been so impressed with their creations. I decided they needed to be scrapped (I am addicted afterall!). I left the paper choices to them (thank goodness they colour coordinated) and together we created a page for each and a page combining them with some journaling covering our exploits. Since I need to test out adding pics Im going to try and share. They are just soooo cute - please note that they are meant to be wacky portraits and the 6 yr old hasn't ever seen smoke coming out of her sisters ears (at least I don't think she has). The only aftermath of this was that they are both hounding me with a plethora of artwork insisting they are worthy of upload to the net. I guess the desire to be published starts early these days!

Nat chose her papers from the "DIVA" Kit by Daniela Peuss and Jaslyn chose hers from the “One” collection by Angela Barton (aka angedawn) of angedawn designs. Both LOs used the Chipboard Slide mount from the "One Collection", staples from the "Diva" kit, stitches by Angie Briggs and buttons with string from the Melany Violette's "All Natural Kit from Simply Clean DigiScraps.

This is the final combined result using papers and elements from the original 2 kits plus Robin Carlton's the digichick, "Sharing a brain with Sara alpha" and Date stamp by Dani Mogstad designbydani . They are chunky and fun and I loved every moment we spent creating them. I did feel a little cheeky uploading this many LOs to the galleries in one sitting (bit of a hog) but they just belonged together. (If I had combined them into one upload they wouldn't attract any attention - we all know that! The girls were so anxious to read what people thought of their artwork so I couldn't deny them viewing time by squishing them down!)

I did one more LO of my littlest (think the other one's getting jealous so Ill have to even up the scales next week). This one is far more dreamy but I loved the tranquil expression on her face and also the soft colours and patterns of these papers. She is such a water baby this girl - she actually asks if she can go in the pool in the middle of winter. I freeze at the meer thought. The papers are from the Cutesy Dream kit by Dawn Stocstill of Modscraps, Photo Overlay/Border is by Monique van Bekkum (aka jomi) at ScrapArtist. I have used this overlay so many times of late and I still love it!

OK I think thats a wrap for today (I did do some other stuff over the last few days as well as scrappin - attended a BBQ, a 3hr kids party and a 5k bushwalk - so the guilt-ometer level is sitting reasonably low at the moment. Luckily Hubby caught up on the ironing for me so all I have to do now is get it back into the wardrobes - mmm
maybe tomorrow! Have a blast til next we meet on screen! And to Ginger - I hope you find where your Aunt "hangs her hat" here in Aussie land. Loved your comment and its nice to know someone's dropping by occasionally even if I have to do a "rectangular challenge" to command the attention! ROFL! G'nite and hugs to my neices Laura, Mel, Emily, Karina and Sophie - your faces are gonna hit the net galleries soon!

(I think Im going to try this in word next time the mini editor seems very limited!)

I've digressed!

OK - This is slow going - spent last night trying to scrap the header - not happy Jan! So...... got thinkin about my title wondering if its too geeky or not jazzy enough! Pondered a few other options and fair dinkum popped into my head! I liked the fact that it was Aussie and, well, since I am, thought that might be fitting. Of course then I got really sidetracked and searched for Aussie slang sites with the intention of finding something "Arty Farty" that you could actually place on a blog header. Sadly, this is a "tall order" for our slang terms - we are a bit of a crewd lot when it comes to language - very inventive Ill give us that, but not much is publishable! For you Aussies out there I think you'll understand what I mean! For instance the term "In the altogether" sounds quite reasonable - sociable? yes....friendly - seemingly so...actually the more it rolls off my tongue the more I like it - at least today anyway. But I don't think its worth suggesting in my blog header that Im sitting in my "birthday suit", in the nick or nuddy, nude or naked while Im typing away my daily, weekly or whatever yabber (thats "talk" folks)! "Chew the fat" and "chinwag" were a bit evasive (and abrasive) for others around the world. So Im sort of back where I started with little gained other than an increased awareness of our delightfully "bent" concepts on language. Can you believe as I type this I'm actually thinking of going back to check out more slang terms! I should be getting this blog up and running with something more than someone else's template and my text! Mean while - have done a LO - yay thats what its all about right? Sorry can't show it yet as I haven't even started looking at how you accomplish that little miracle!

Wow - wrote too much about nothing didn't I? "Much ado about nothing" - hey maybe I could use that? What'ya think? any one out there....hello...hello?!!?? testing testing 123! If you have happened across this entry and have a suggestion Id be glad to here it! I think you can leave one!??!...somewhere around here! Hey this is actually quite fun pretending you're talking to people when you're not really sure that you are! I think Im going to be a chatterbox on this thing but at least Ill be able to reduce my chatter in Emails - now that I have an alternate outlet.

Oh and thanks for dropping by (If you did that is!). More "cods wollip" (can't say bull....) from me "in a tic" or 2. Hopefully Ill have outgrown this unrefined stage by tomorrow - I think its my family heritage - afterall we have been here for just over 200 years!

PS - If you didn't understand half of my post you need to find an aussie slang site (just worked out how to link - I did achieve something! (Last thought.....maybe I could call it Rapt'N'Cheeky). Ava good one!

Set-up Blues

Thought I'd try to enter the world of blogging! It seems a natural progression! Why not? Even if no-one is interested in my raves and rants at least I'll have an outlet outside of my head to dump stuff!
